HEALTH AND WELLBEING WORKSHOPS

Commemorating the International Day of the Environment, the bilingual programme, together with the Department of Physical Education and Physics and Chemistry, have organized the first day of "Health and Wellness Workshops " . The day began with some students and teachers commuting together by bike taking part in the "Bicibús".  After that, some students of 2nd and 4th of ESO prepared several workshops in which they showed and talked about aspects such as additives and nutritional values of different products students usually eat. Later on, 4th of ESO students organized varied workshops with physical activities related to the topic and meditation or stretching activities for the participants. Congratulations!

THE UNIVERSE

 Our language assistant talking about the universe, astronomical units, light-years... a fascinating lesson that has kept 3rd year students in awe.

BENEFITS OF CYCLING

  More and more students in our school use their bikes to commute from and back home, in this Physics lesson, Catherine tells the students how forces work when riding a bike and explains the benefits of doing so regularly.

DEBATING IN THE TECHNOLOGY LESSON

 Internet and posting online is the topic students of 2 ESO are dealing with in the Technology lesson. Catherine, our language assistant, has organised a debate in which they should talk about the use of Tik Tok. 

CELEBRATING THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF WOMEN AND GIRLS IN SCIENCE

This past week we have been celebrating the International Day of Women and Girls in Science with several different activities. Some students have watched films learning about the lives of interesting women who dedicated their time to science.  Some classes have been working with our language assistant, Catherine, about the women in the exposition held in the first corridor of the school.  There has been a quizz, for younger students about the posters in the corridor too. It has been an exciting week with a lot of things to learn about women scientists.  

ORAL PRESENTATIONS IN 2 ESO

 This week, in the Technology lesson, some students have presented their term works to the class. These oral presentations give students the opportunity to express themselves in English and show their classmates the work they´ve been doing.  Some of the topics explained were: the risks in the technology workshop and the dangers of using electronic devices such as mobile phones or laptops connected to the internet.

HAPPY TO WELCOME OUR GREEK PARTNERS

  A group of 19 students and 2 teachers from the Pagkritio High School in Crete (Greece) has come to visit our school. After the reception, some of our 1st Bachillerato students have joined them to enjoy breakfast together and a tour of the city, including the visit to one of its famous wine cellars.  

MATTER - ITS STRUCTURE

  Today, our 3rd year students of ESO have been learning about matter and  its structure, together with vocabulary related terms.  In the image we see out language assistant, Catherine, with some students during one of the lessons.

LEARNING HOW TO SAVE WATER

  Last week, our language assistant, Catherine, taught students of 2nd year of ESO about the importance of saving water and discussed with them all the options they have to be active in this important issue and learn what to do from their homes. Thank you, Catherine!

WELCOMING THE NEW LANGUAGE ASSISTANT

Catherine Turner, the new language assistant, has just arrived from Baltimore (USA), to spend this year with us.  She will help our students with culture, pronunciation, gamification, and all sorts of brilliant ideas which will make them love English and improve their knowledge of the language. We are all delighted she's staying with us. Welcome Catherine!

"THE DISASTERS OF THE WAR"

 Students of 4th of ESO have visited this amazing exposition with the works of the famous photographer Emilio Morenatti. Each student has commented on what one of the images appealed to their senses and the result has been extraordinary.  This are some examples: " I can see a woman crying. I would hear the sobs of the woman and the explosions. I would smell dust and gunpowder due to the city's state. It reminds me of a salty flavour, like tears. I would be touching fabrics because I would hug the woman" (Miriam A) "In this photo I can see a woman who is destroyed about the consequences that the war has brought to her country. I could smell all the pollution there is in the streets. I also smell the dust and gunpowder. I would be touching the stones that are on the floor. TRIP TO GIBRALTAR

  Yesterday, 18th of May, students from 4th of ESO, 1st and 2nd Baccalaureate visited Gibraltar and watched a play by Plauto in the Roman ruins of Baelo Claudia.  Students had the opportunity to enjoy British culture as well as learn about the place and experience the everyday use of the English language. The English Department together with the Department of Classic Languages, organised the trip, which was a success.

IWO JIMA'S FLAG

On February 23, 1945, six U.S. Marines planted an American flag on top of the battle-blasted hill on the island of Iwo Jima, a strongly defended Japanese stronghold.  Photographer Joe Rosenthal captured the moment in a single, immortal image which, two days later, was on the front page of Sunday papers across de U.S.   Our language assistant, Milo Bowles, has discussed, this past week, the iconic photograph taken during World War II on top of Iwo Jima's mountain with 4th ESO students.

4TH ESO STUDENTS ATTENDING A TALK ABOUT CÁDIZ

  Our students of 4th of ESO have been invited to attend a talk in English which some of the students following the Vocational Training Course at our school (Vacational Hosting) have prepared to inform about the touristic facilities and opportunities offered in the different towns and villages of the province.  On this occasion, the selected city has been the capital of the province, Cádiz. They have learnt about its culture, monuments, food and the wonderful beaches, among many other things. We thank them all for their kind invitation. STUDENTS OF 1 ESO PRESENT THEIR PROJECTS ON BIOMAS

 The students of our first year of ESO have been working in groups in the History lesson, together with our language assistant, preparing oral presentations on the different biomas on our planet. Then, they have explained their research work in English to the classroom. Congratulations on your work!! Los estudiantes de 1º de ESO han estado trabajando en grupos en la clase de Geografía e Historia, con la ayuda de nuestra auxiliar de conversación, preparando una presentación oral sobre los diferentes biomas de nuestro planeta. Posteriormente, han mostrado al resto de la clase el resultado de sus investigaciones en una exposición oral al resto de la clase. ¡Enhorabuena a todos y todas por vuestro trabajo!

SHAMSIA HASSANI

Several students of 4 ESO have introduced the work of this Afghan graffiti artist to student of the first, second and third year of ESO. Their presentations have been followed with interest by all the participants in the project, which has been possible thanks to the help of the Philosophy Department, the Coeducation Programme and the pictures kindly lent by the IES La Merced in Jerez. Varios estudiantes de 4 de ESO han presentado el trabajo de esta grafitera afgana a el resto de alumnado de 1º, 2º y 3º de ESO. Su presentación ha sido seguida con interés por todos los participantes en el proyecto, lo que ha sido posible gracias a la colaboración del Departamento de Filosofía, el Programa de Coeducación y la amable cesión de imágenes por parte del IES La Merced de Jerez de la Frontera.
